Knowledge
Shawn Schmidt continued his academic excellence after completing undergraduate degree work at the University of Nebraska. At Logan College of Chiropractic, he garnered national acclaim while fulfilling the responsibilities of a student leader.
His education did not stop at graduation. Dr. Schmidt displays an unflagging thirst for knowledge, leading him to over 2800 classroom hours of study since receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic in 1986.
His advanced studies in the fields of neurology, trauma, pain control, functional medicine, nutrition, herbology, reflexology, energetic medicine and many other modalities assure Dr. Schmidt’s patients of benefiting from the right treatment for their ailment.
As an example of his dedication, when American interest in Eastern medicine blossomed in the 1990s, Dr. Schmidt not only took accredited courses in acupuncture here in the U.S. but traveled and studied extensively throughout China to learn firsthand about the complex system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Today, his patients benefit from that knowledge as well as the vast elements of education Dr. Schmidt continues to assimilate.
Public Service
Dr. Schmidt conducts monthly seminars and workshops that are open to the public free of charge. They cover a wide range of health and wellness topics. As a dynamic and motivational speaker in high demand, Dr. Schmidt has lectured at worldwide conferences and travels widely. He has appeared on television and radio, often emphasizing the roles that nutrition and biochemistry play in healing.
His clinic has been selected by Creighton University Medical School as a clinic rotation site for senior medical students to familiarize them with the intricacies of alternative medicine.
Experience
Athletics may be the touchstone that defines Shawn Schmidt. Activities are one thing, but what really matters is that his interest in athletics bears witness to the underlying fountain of energy that Dr. Schmidt brings to his practice.
Since his youth and through adulthood, Shawn Schmidt has excelled at a high level: as a high school and college athlete in football, basketball and track and now as a professional racecar driver as an adult. His understanding of how the human body performs athletically has given him a unique perspective on the physiology and function of the body.
As Chief Medical Advisor for the prestigious Indy Car Racing Series (and a driver), he now applies his valuable insight to how movement and the forces of nature impact the body. A patient need not be an athlete to appreciate how a simple incorrect movement can have an unintended result.
Leadership
In 1990, Dr. Schmidt founded the Natural Health Center in Omaha. It was the most advanced clinic of the time and the first clinic in Nebraska to integrate conventional medicine with alternative therapies. Dr. Schmidt reorganized and expanded the clinic again in 2001 to include additional doctors and staff. He opened a second clinic in Springfield, Nebr. in 2000. Both clinics continue to initiate new modalities and programs assuring the best of all possible holistic therapies, maintaining their leadership in the field of medicine.
He has served as Vice President of the Greater Omaha Chiropractic Association and is one of the principle organizers for annual charity events in the Omaha community.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Schmidt regularly served as a student leader and program coordinator, receiving national recognition for his efforts.
In his active athletic pursuits, as owner and driver, he has led his Red Shark Race Team to top five rankings in the American Indy Car Series.
Creativity
Dr. Schmidt is a published columnist and writer for the national publication, Nebraska Sports America, touching on excellence in athletics, motivation and life goals.
He is also the patent holder on medical devices that he has developed through his experience in athletics. One such device is a post-trauma/post-surgical orthopedic brace for head and neck injuries. Other devices he has developed are designed to protect the body from trauma injuries in football and racing.
Compassion
Like millions of Americans, Dr. Schmidt was deeply moved by the events of September 11, 2001.
He traveled to Ground Zero at his own expense to provide medical and chiropractic care for the police, firemen and volunteers at the scene. He describes the experience as ‘life changing’.
As a devoted father, he cherishes the values and needs that are the hallmarks of health – spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Man is a holistic being. Dr. Shawn Schmidt is a holistic practitioner bringing every experience and shred of knowledge in his command to his patients.
